Stream AVCHD files to PS3 through Synology NAS - Merge GH2 Files into One

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 is capable of recording high-resolution full-HD 1920x1080 movies in AVCHD format with 60i or 50i. Lumix GH2 also provides Motion JPEG in HD 1280x720. My GH2 is PAL model with 60i, and I find the 1080/24p native mode with 24Mbps provides pretty good and crystal movies in AVCHD. I take Synology with 1TB as the NAS for my home network, and I have PS3 for my HDTV.

I would like to combine the files before streaming AVCHD files to PS3 through NAS. I find Aunsoft Video Converter for Mac after googling for uploading GH2 AVCHD files to Mac and combining and files. Here I would like to share with you the steps to join GH2 AVCHD video files on Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.

Step 1. Import GH2 footage to Aunsoft Video Converter for Mac.
Connect Lumix GH2 to iMac via USB cable, run Aunsoft Video Converter for Mac as the best Lumix GH2 video joiner/converter on Mac. Click the "Add" button to browse the .mts or .m2ts files from the camera. The video files are generally available when you open AVCHD > BDMV > STREAM.

Step 2. Choose HD video format.
Click the "Format" option, and choose HD Video > MPEG-TS HD Video(*.ts) as output format. I choose this format, because I can then rename .ts to .m2ts for playback with PS3. If you use other media player or would like to play on Mac, you can also choose H.264 HD Video(*.mov) as output format with high quality.


Step 3. Merge/Combine GH2 videos files.
Tick the checkbox for "Merge into one file" to combine and join all the files on the list into one file as output.

Step 4. Convert Lumix video files to TS for Popcorn Hour media player.
Click the convert button under the preview window, and the Mac Lumix video joiner will start converting and merging GH2 AVCHD files for PS3.

After the conversion, you can rename .ts to .m2ts, or leave it as .ts file. Put the output files to Synology NAS for sharing within home network, and play the joined AVCHD files on HDTV with PS3.

Tips:
1. Before joining the GH2 video files into one, you can also trim and cut some parts off the movie. Just Select a video clip, click the Editor button and enter the time point you want under the Trim tab.
