Convert/Import Sony CX700 AVCHD MTS to ProRes for Final Cut Pro editing

As one of the hottest products from Sony Hanycam line in 2011, Sony HDR-CX700V offers Full HD 60p and 28Mbps recording, as well as a traditional 60i record mode. With the camcorder's 96GB of internal flash memory, you are able to record long-time high definition videos. If you have shot videos with your new Sony HDR- CX700V for the special events like wedding receptions of your friends or relative, birthday party of your family, you may want to make some basic editing like merge, split/cut, or add background music, at the same time retain its original 1080/60p 28Mbps video quality at best.
The Sony CX700 HD videos are stored as 1080p .mts, which is not the preferred compression for editing on FCP. The Apple Final Cut format is Pro Res footage. How to get Sony HDR-XR700VE MTS to Pro Res for Final Cut Studio?

After searching solutions for MTS to ProRes, I got the workaround with Aunsoft Video Converter for Mac, which comes with Final Cut. I convert the MTS files from Sony HDR-XR700E to the highest quality codec at same frame rate and size as the raw footage, and then output Pro Res for FCP. If you would also like to go further with detailed explanation, just keep reading.

Step 1. Import Sony XR700E videos to Aunsoft Video Converter for Mac.
Connect Sony HDR-XR700VE camcorder to Apple computer with USB cable, and transfer the .mts files from camcorder to Apple hard disk drive. Run Aunsoft Video Converter for Mac as the perfect Mac Sony CX700 AVCHD to ProRes converter, and click the "Add" button to load .mts files.

Step 2. Choose ProRes 422 (HQ) codec.
Click the "Format" option, and navigate to Final Cut Pro > Apple ProRes 422(HQ) (*.mov) as output format. The Mac 1080/60p video converter will transcode AVCHD .mts files to ProRes 422 (HQ) .mov.And most original settings as the raw footage, like fps, 1920x1080 resolution. To get the highest video quality, just click the "Settings" button and choose high quality for video bitrate.

Step 3. Choose 1080p size with 60fps.
Click the "Settings" button and choose 1920*1080 from the video size drop-down box to keep the original HD resolution. Click the drop-down box for frame rate, and choose 60fps as output video frame rate.

Step 4. Convert Sony CX700 1080/60p to ProRes 422 HQ on Mac for FCP.
Click the convert button under the preview window, and the Mac CX700 AVCHD to FCP native format converter will start converting HD 1080 to 1080/60p for FCP on Mac Non-linear editing.

Hope you enjoy the steps above to get Sony CX700 1080p 60fps to ProRes 422 (HQ) for Final Cut Pro , Final Cut Pro 7, Final Cut Studio.

Tips: If you are using Final Cut Pro 5 or lower version, ProRes is not the best format for you. However, you can choose QuickTime Movie Format > Apple InterMediate Codec(AIC) as output format for editing on Mac.
