Merge and Convert Panasonic ZS7 AVCHD Lite to ProRes 422 for edit on FCP

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7 records videos in AVCHD Lite 720p format. The Creative Movie mode with shutter speed makes it perfect to shoot fast-moving subject. When you connect ZS7 to iMac, the Apple computer does not recognize the AVCHD Lite files. And when you try to import the AVCHD Lite movies to FCP,  Final Cut may shut down immediately or pop up error message. So how can you backup the movies on Mac and edit AVCHD Lite on Mac Final Cut Pro any time you want?
