Best Way to Merge and Convert AVCHD MTS/M2TS to MOV for iMovie 11

I have Sony Handycam HDR-SR12E camcorder and shoot the New Year videos recently. I would like to edit the recorded .m2ts video on iMac. Since the Sony software is Windows only, I shall perform a conversion of the .m2ts to Mac compatible .mov.
