Final Cut was said to support AVCHD .mts files, but I could not figure out the reason for my issue yet. I then find Sony DSLR AVCHD Video Converter and get .mov videos for editing on Final Cut Express. It works wonderfully for my Sony SLT-A55 videos. I just use the USB extension cable to connect the SLT-A55V to PC, transfer the videos to Mac hard drive, and load the videos to the MTS to FCP converter, choose Common Video > MOV – QuickTime(*.mov) as output format for conversion. I can then load the videos to Final Cut Pro without problem.

Step 1. Load AVCHD files to Aunsoft Sony DSLR AVCHD Video Converter
Drag and drop AVCHD-MTS files into the program. You can also click “Add” button to load MTS or M2TS files into the app. Then you will face the interface as below.
Step 2. Deinterlace AVCHD footage .
Follow “Editor”> “Effect” and tick the checkbox of “Deinterlacing” and you will get a sharper image. Check “Apply to all” to deinterlace all your imported files.
Step 3: Choose output format MOV to Final Cut.
Click the “Format” option, and choose Adobe Premiere/Sony Vegas > MOV (AVC)(*.mov) for converting MTS to H.264 MOV for FCP. The MTS converter will keep the original 1920×1080 video resolution to the QuickTime MOV file. More than that, Aunsoft DSLR AVCHD Converter provides with many other options for your different devices or purposes, such as iPod, iPad, iPhone, Apple TV, PSP, Zune, Audio output, Flash Video, etc. You can also custom your destination folder for output videos in “Export to” list.

Step 4: Merge MTS files and Convert
Join MTS files (optional) and convert. Before you start conversion, you can check “Merge into one file” to combine multiple AVCHD files together and output to one single video.
Deinterlacing and merging AVCHD MTS/M2TS files with Aunsoft Mac version of MTS/M2TS Converter. So what I’m going to say is that if you have large AVCHD footage and relatively not well equipped Mac , it’s recommended that you choose a solid and well performed AVCHD Converter to convert AVCHD to Final Cut/iMovie friendly format instead of abruptly importing your MTS or M2TS files into these editing software.
Tips:If you are Windows users and would like to play and edit AVCHD/MTS/M2TS video recordings, Windows DSLR MTS Converter is the best choice.
